How to Hear About Weekly and/or Last Minute Changes to our Plan
We use RainedOut to send text notifications of day-of or last minute cancellations for practice(s) or a Meet. To subscribe to RainedOut please text the word TURBOJAV to 84483 on your cell phone.
You should be receiving weekly emails from MYTF about practices and/or Meets. If you are not, please first check your Spam folder. If you still can't find them, please email email@example.com.
We will post any changes to the week's schedule on this page as well.
Sunday 9/20 Meet Plan
2 sessions instead of 3, with each session being slightly longer.
Session 1 is 12:30-2:30 and Session 2 is 2:45-4:45.
Each session is still open to any/all ages. Each child can participate in up to 2 events.
Within each session we will offer the same events. This week's events are the 1k, 2k and 4k.
The SignUp Genius link is at the bottom of this email. You will sign your child(ren) up for up a session and events but not a heat.
We will close the SignUp Genius at 5pm Friday and form the heats. We will consider age, siblings running in the same event and avoiding a kid running back-to-back events.
Our goal is to better balance heat size throughout the day.
You will receive notification from SignUp Genius when the heat assignments are complete (by Saturday).
Events and heats will be run in the order they are listed in the SignUp Genius.
We would really prefer your child to run the events and heats they are assigned to. We will try to accommodate day-of changes if it is for a really good reason. Please come to the check-in table if you need to change events or heats.
The Sign Up Genius has separate spaces for parents and practice coaches to volunteer. Some on-field volunteer roles are best filled by a practice coach.
We need a certain number of volunteers to run a meet efficiently and to be able to focus on social distancing and masks. We really need volunteers to stay for the entire session (or until their position is no longer needed). We just can't do this without that kind of help so thank you so much in advance!
What to Bring & Know:
Please bring your child's race bib, well-labeled water bottle, mask and lanyard (if desired).
Bring enough water - there is no water source onsite.
If your child did not receive their race bib in practice (or a lanyard) you can pick it up at the check-in table. If you forget the race bib we can make you a temporary one. Please arrive 15-10 minutes early in that case.
We will hold a meet in the rain as long as conditions are safe. Please make sure you are subscribed to RainedOut.
There are port-a-potties at Falls Church High School. I cannot vouch for their condition or cleaning schedule!
Where Kids, Volunteers & Adults Should Go
If you arrive early and the coaches are not yet calling for athletes and/or volunteers to join them on the field, please go sit in the big stands behind the Admin Table area.
The coaches will call for athletes to come down to the field for a warm-up lap and exercises. Your child should go to the field when called - with their bib pinned on and their water bottle.
Practice coaches and parent volunteers should go onto the field when called.
Observing parents and family members need to stay outside of the track/field area - in other words, outside of the fence. There are stands and a fence on either side of the field.
Last Sunday we had many families sitting at the tables by the long jump area so they could sit in the shade. Unfortunately this is our "on deck" area and it became too crowded. Only parent volunteers and athletes are allowed in this space moving forward.
I know there isn't much shade. You are welcome to bring an umbrella to use in the stands or on the fence. Please be considerate of others though and do not block their view!
When you child completes their first event please have them come join you (outside of the fence) to wait for their next event/heat to be called. It is important that you listen for their next event/heat to be called because we may not be able to put them in a later one.
Reminder of COVID-19 Precautions & Your Responsibilities:
As a family, please wear a mask when arriving, departing, standing in line at the Admin Table and anytime you are within 6 ft of someone to whom you are not related.
Athletes are expected to wear a mask and remain 6 ft away from the other kids whenever they are on the field and not actively running in an event.
Every family has a different comfort level about distancing during the actual events. We are trying to space the kids out for the start. Spacing while running seemed to happen naturally for many but it is dependent on the distance being run, siblings and/or friends choosing to run together, the coincidence of pace and the drive of competitive athletes wanting to keep up with someone in front of them.
Please provide your child with the guidance of your choosing about specifics like wearing a mask while running, wearing a mask until spaced out enough, not running too closely beside or behind another runner, passing with a wide berth, etc.
We know that some families are friends and have made the decision to socialize closely during this time of COVID. It is important that you still mask-up if you are going to hang out with friends at the meet - even if you are comfortable sharing a dinner table together at home.
I have heard there is a possibility for county inspectors to drop by youth sporting events. The inspectors do not know or care if families are socializing outside of the meet!
(example only - the season was cancelled due to Covid-19)
The draft schedule for Spring 2020 is as follows. Please note: our ability to offer this many practice sessions is wholly dependent on volunteer coach participation at the necessary levels.

PRACTICE PLAN - DRAFT
Meet Schedule & Details - Draft
Meets are currently planned for the following Sundays: Sept 8 (Orientation Meet), Sept 15, Sept 22, Sept 29, Oct 6, Oct 13, Oct 20, Oct 27 (Family Fun Meet). Nov 3 can be used as a make-up Meet, if necessary.
In the Fall, MYTF offers kids the opportunity to participate in cross country events (1k, 2k, 3k, 4k) as well as the traditional Track & Field Meets. As such, we alternate between the two themes for our Meets and plan to offer 3 T&F and 3 Cross Country Meets for Fall 2019.
All Fall Meets will be held at Falls Church High School.
Track & Field Meets (just like Spring) will be held between 1 and 5pm. We split the Track & Field Meets into two sessions, 1-3pm and 3-5pm, by age group (younger/older).
Cross Country Meets are a 2pm start for ALL athletes/ALL ages.
As with practice, your child's age group is based on their age at the start of the season (8/27). Your child will receive a race bib at the first meet he/she attends. The race bib's first digit/number represents your child's assigned age group.
Just as all other sports separate by ages/grades, we require your child attend the meet session assigned to their age group so they can compete along side their peers. We cannot allow older/younger siblings to compete in the older/younger age group.
Please remember that a responsible adult needs to remain at the meet.
We always need on-field volunteers (no experience required) so please come on down! With that said, only volunteering adults can be on the field. All spectators should watch from the stands or the fence.
