Coach Katherine is returning for her second full year with MYTF. Her 400M competitive running days are long gone, but her love of track remains strong, and she still enjoys running for recreation. Katherine came to MYTF after three years of coaching Girls on the Run at Great Falls Elementary, and has also served as an assistant coach for McLean Youth Soccer and Volleyball. Coach Katherine is a certified personal trainer, and a 20 year veteran of the fitness industry. She currently runs Marketing and Concierge Services at Elm Street Fitness in downtown McLean, and lives in McLean with her husband and two teenage daughters.
Assistant Coach: Jennifer Lucero
Jennifer Lucero is new to MYTF and will be assisting with the 5-8 year old age group. She has two daughters 6 and 8 who will also be running with MYTF this season. Jennifer is a former FireMedic and an ER RN who was a competitive swimmer from the age of 8 years old through her first year at college. After graduation, she swam with Masters and competed in many sprint to Olympic-distance triathlons. She runs in about 4-5 half marathons each year and has run one full marathon.
Assistant Coach: Kristin Sharpe
Kristin Sharpe is excited to assist Coach Katherine this season. She has a 12-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter running with MYTF this season. Kristin became an avid runner as an adult enjoying 5k, 10k and ½ marathon races. She particularly likes when her kids and husband join her on her runs. When not running or being a Mom to her two kids, Kristin runs an IT consulting company for nonprofits and universities.
Assistant Coach: Ally Thring
This is Coach Ally's third season volunteering for MYTF, and she once again returns as an Assistant Coach for the 5-7 year olds. As an 8th grader at Cooper Middle School, Ally was honored with the Good Citizenship Award for her numerous hours of dedication and service to MYTF. She is currently a freshman at Marshall High School.
Assistant Coaches: Adair, Danielle, and Nick Maynard
Assisting us since the Fall 2013 season are three McLean High School athletes: Adair, Danielle, and Nick Maynard. Adair is a junior at McLean High School (MHS), while Nick and Danielle are rising sophomores. All three are members of the MHS Track Team for both indoor and outdoor seasons, and have generously volunteered their time to help younger runners in the community.
Adair is an accomplished sprinter at McLean, having participated in the 100M, 200M, 300M, and 400M, 300M hurdles, and discus. She was also selected for the MHS Liberty District and Northern Region Championships Team. Danielle is a jumper, sprinter, and cross country runner, and also a member of the MHS District and Regional teams. Nick is a distance runner specializing in the 800M, 1600M, and cross-country races. Notably, both Danielle and Nick are veterans of the MYTF program prior to their high school careers!
Assistant Coach: Matt Ohlson
New to MYTF this Spring 2014 season, Matt is a junior at McLean High School. He is a seasoned competitor in shot put and discus throwing, and will be helping to coach discus for McLean Youth Track & Field. Matt is one of the top throwers in the Northern Region, and he qualified for the Virginia State Championship in shot put this winter. Matt also has competed in the USATF Junior Olympics in shot put. He's happy to answer any questions about the throws and Junior Olympics for our older athletes (12 & up) who are eligible to compete in discus.
Administrator: Mickey Skelton
Mickey is a parent volunteer who coordinates the various activities behind the scene. Her own track experience was limited to serving as an athletic trainer in both high school and college for both the men's and women's teams, but she is therefore familiar with the formats, events, and issues specific to Track and Field. It is her many years of project management experience though that apply to this role, and she hopes to use them to help make the MYTF experience a smooth and enjoyable one for all families.
